Unit 1 offers trophy big game hunting for elk, mule deer, whitetail, pronghorn antelope, and Rocky Mountain sheep, and also offers ideal hunting for hunting for black bear, mountain lion, and turkey. Furthermore, great opportunities for small game such as bobcat, coyote, fox, cottontail rabbit, squirrel and more are available to hunters.

Because of its numerous high-country lakes systems, this area provides optimal opportunities for waterfowl and fishing. Waterfowl species abound throughout this unit which include: geese, mallards, mergansers, blue winged teal, northern pintail, gadwall, widgeon, redheads, canvasback, ringnecks, and more. Game-fish species in the high-country lakes, rivers and streams include rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, and the prized Native Apache Trout.

AZ Hunt Unit 1 Map is loaded with information including hundreds of miles of 4x4 roads as well as scenic hiking trails. For example, the Mount Baldy Wilderness offers many trails along one of Arizona’s highest peaks at 11,421 ft. Also, during the winter, the near-by Sunrise Park Resort provides downhill ski runs. Other winter recreation includes cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and snowmobiling. During the summer months, the ski park transforms to offer summer activities such as: mounting biking trails, air bag jump, super slide, bungee jumping, a rock wall, archery, disc golf hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and more.

The Grand Canyon State has been divided into Hunt Units otherwise known as Game Management Units (GMU). Each of these units can contain state, federal, military and private land, and the boundaries serve in assisting the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Arizona Game and Fish Commission in managing wildlife within its boundaries. And although these references seem specific to wildlife and hunting, each unit's boundaries can be helpful to any outdoor enthusiast whether you are hiking, biking, off-roading, boating or camping.
